A strong farming community, Pasadena, Texas began to grow around 1894 after the construction of several railroads including, Houston, La Porte, and Northern Railroad. In 1900, when a hurricane destroyed most of the crops in the area, the farmers received a boost. The American Red Cross purchased 1.5 million strawberry plants and shortly after, the city established itself as the strawberry capital of the region. The farmers then started to planted other fruits and vegetables including, cucumbers, flowers, cantaloupe and cape jasmine.

By the 1930s, Pasadena started to move away from an agriculture and farming based economy to an industrial based economy. This shift helped to generate and grow a much larger population. For example, near the start of World War II, the city had a population of 3,436. After the war, the population exploded to reach 22,483, and by 1993 Pasadena had approximately 2,147 businesses. Today, the city is home to the annual Strawberry Festival, many city run parks and renown education programs and institutions.

Pasadena Electricity Providers

Retail electricity providers entered the Texas electricity market in 2002. Prior to their arrival, utilities were responsible for all elements of electricity from customer service all the way to generation. This structure prevented competition from establishing itself in the market. Customers had no choice but to stick with the rates they paid for their business and residential energy.

When electricity providers were given the opportunity to establish themselves in Texas, a competitive market followed. Customers in 85% of the state now have the option to choose their REP from many of the Public Utility Commission’s certified companies. A customer’s freedom to choose any REP means that these companies need to make sure that they offer the best possible rates, services and products. If they don’t, they risk loosing or attracting customers to other REPs.

In Pasadena, electricity customers have many REPs to choose from, including:

  • Infuse Energy
