These types of fuels tend to impact the environment in different ways as they release carbon emissions.  Alternatively, there are also many electricity providers that offer green electricity plans and options to their consumers.

In general, green electric plans use renewable energy sources to generate the electricity that the customer uses. Examples of renewable resources include:

This electricity provider has many different plans available to residents in Houston. Some of the plans (using zip code 77001) include:

Pollution Free – The electricity in this plan is generated from 100% wind power. This plan is flexible from month to month, with no cancellation fees.

SolarSPARC 10% 12 – This plan has 10% of its electricity generated from solar and 90% generated from wind. The contract length is 12 months and a cancellation fee of $150.

Pollution Free WaterSaver24 – In this plan, the consumer receives electricity generated 100% by wind power, with a cancellation fee of $200. The plan length is 24 months. With this plan, the consumer also receives a free smart sprinkler controller to help reduce water consumption.

All Veteran Energy terms listed above are currently 100% energy renewable. This means that all of the electricity that the consumers receive through this plan is generated from renewable resources. These plans are also fixed price, which means that the rate will not change or fluctuate over time. When it comes to early termination fees, many of these plans do have an additional fee should the customer want to switch services prior to the contract end date. The termination fees are based on the green electricity plan. For example, Secure Green 12-month charges a flat termination fee of $150.00.

TriEagle Energy

TriEagle Energy is an electricity provider that offers electricity supply related services to consumers in the Houston area. They have a few green electricity plans (using zip code 77001) including Green Eagle,

The electricity provided in these plans is 100% renewable, and currently range from 8.7 – 8.8 cents per kWh. Early termination fees for these plans include $20 for each month left in the contract.  It is important to note that the rates above are subject to change and are only current as of publish date.

Frontier Utilities

Frontier Utilities is another company that provides Houston electricity consumers with green electricity. These plans include a monthly fee and termination fee, but offer 100% renewable electricity (based off zip code 77053).

The name of this plan isSimply Green 6.

Environmental Impacts of Green Electricity

The biggest benefit of subscribing to a green plan is that cleaner energy is consumed.
