With the fall underway, many consumers from all over the country are looking to find new energy contracts just in time for the colder weather to hit. The fall can be a great time to sign up for a new low-priced energy contract. Here is a small snapshot of some of the current residential electricity rates in the biggest deregulated markets around the country.

Texas
Houston (77009) – Veteran Energy has plans starting at 7.98 cents per kWh for three months, and 8.67 cents per kWh for customers who make a full year agreement.
Dallas (75201) – Direct Energy offers no-contract plans for customers in Dallas featuring rates at 8.1 cents per kWh. Customers who want to lock in a 12 month plan with the company can expect to pay as low as 9.2 cents per kWh.
Galveston (77550) – Galveston customers can lock in rates as low as 8.7 cents per kWh for a nine nine month contract with TriEagle. The company also offers plans that last for 12 months with rates as low as 8.9 cents per kWh. While these rates may not be as low as some of the options available in Houston, many REPs are now offering some of the lowest prices of the season for area customers.
Ohio
Cleveland (44101) – In Cleveland, customers can lock in low rates with Direct Energy. They have an 18 month plan with rates as low as 7.75 cents per kWh. This retail energy provider also has a 36 month long plan with rates as low as 8.09 cents per kWh for customers who want to know they can rely on low rates for years to come.
Cincinnati (45201) – Residents living in Cincinnati can enjoy some of the area?s lowest energy prices. Direct Energy has 12 month plans available with rates at just 6.75 cents per kWh. Santanna also has similar prices with 12 month rates as low as 6.77 cents per kWh.
Akron (44304) – In Akron, residents who partner with JustEnergy can enjoy rates of 7.99 cents per kWh for 12 months. DirectEnergy consumers that want an 18 month plan on the other hand, can lock in rates as low as 7.65 cents per kWh.
Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh (15201) – Residents in the Steel City often have higher energy rates when compared to some of the surrounding cities in the state. TriEagle has some of the lowest prices in the city, with rates as low as 7.56 cents per kWh for 36 months. Consumers who want a shorter-term contract can lock in 12 month rates for 8.73 cents per kWh.
Philadelphia (19010) – In Philadelphia, TriEagle customers have a variety of low-cost, long-term plans to choose from. Customers of this provider can enjoy 7.86 cents per kWh for 24 months of 7.76 cents per kWh for 36 months, making it easy for residents to know they are locking in rates below 8 cents for the next three years.
New Jersey
Clifton (07011) – Clifton area New Jersey residents often have above-average rates with their electricity plans. However, eCommerce Energy allows residents to lock in rates below 12 cents per kWh with their 36 month plan that has 11.99 cent per kWh options, for a full year.
Plainfield (07060) – Yep Energy customers living in the Plainfield area of New Jersey can lock in a 12 month plan that features rates of 12.66 cents per kWh, or an eCommerce Energy plan with rates at 11.99 cents per kWh for 12 months.
Woodbridge (07095) – DirectEnergy customers living in the greater Woodbridge area can lock in a year-long contract with rates as low as 12.55 cents per kWh.
Illinois
Chicago (60606) – Residents of the Windy City who want low rates on their energy bill will find that DirectEnergy has some of the lowest prices in the city, with a year-long plan that has rates as low as 7.75 cents per kWh. Santanna ComEd has a year-long plan with 7.46 cents per kWh as well. Tara Energy has a two-year price protection program available for 24 months with rates at just 9.39 cents per kWh.
Peoria (61606) – DirectEnergy is one of the main retail energy providers in the greater Peoria area. The company has a contract option available for area residents interested in two year plans, with rates as low as 8.49 cents per kWh.
New York
Manhattan (10001) – BounceEnergy has plans available for residents of Manhattan that want to lock in two year plans. These rates start as 12.3 cents per kWh. Just Energy has a comparable plan for 36 months that has rates as low as 12.4 cents per kWh.
Brooklyn (11201) – Brooklyn residents in the ConEd service area can choose from several available plans. Just Energy offers 12 month plans for 12.8 cents per kWh, or 36 month plans with rates as low as 12.4 cents per kWh.
Rochester (14603) – Residents living in the greater Rochester area of New York state will find some of the lowest energy rates in the state. BounceEnergy has a 24 month plan available with rates as low as 7 cents per kWh, while JustEnergy offers a one-year price protection plan with rates as low as 9.5 cents per kWh.
Connecticut
Hartford (06101) – Residents of Hartford, Connecticut can lock in a year-long plan with DirectEnergy that comes with 9.75 cent per kWh electricity rates. Residents who want a short-term fixed rate plan will find the REP offers 6 month plans with rates as low as 11.95 cents per kWh.
Bridgeport (06604) – In Bridgeport, Connecticut residents can enjoy rates as low as 9.75 cents per kWh when they sign up for a 12 month plan with DirectEnergy. Other plans include an 18 month option with rates as low as 10.15 cents per kWh and a two-year option that features rates as low as 10.49 cents per kWh.
